If youâre an Inmotion RS rider and recently heard about a motor cable âupgrade,â donât worryâyou donât have to rip your scooter apart or email customer support just yet. This blog breaks down whatâs changed, why it matters, and who (if anyone) should care.
Spoiler: if your RS is working fine, keep riding and stop overthinking. Seriously.
đ§ Whatâs the Deal with the Motor Cable Upgrade?
In the original generation of the Inmotion RS electric scooter, the motor cable was designed with a quick-disconnect plug between the motor and the controller. Sounds smart, right? Easy swaps, clean design, and plug-and-play convenience.
Well⌠not so fast.
That extra connector turned out to be the cause of some pesky issues:
-
Error code 217 (motor communication fault)
-
Error code 212 (overheating or abnormal resistance)
-
And yes, occasional frustration-induced scooter exorcisms (kidding... mostly)
To fix this, Inmotion rolled out a newer motor version that ditches the quick disconnect entirely.
đ What Changed in the New Version?
In the updated RS motor, the cable now connects directly to the controller, skipping the middleman. This direct connection:
-
Reduces risk of those annoying error codes
-
Lowers chances of overheating under heavy load
-
Offers better long-term reliability for high-performance riders
Old Setup = More connectors, more potential issues

New Setup = Cleaner wiring, fewer headaches
đ Can You Retrofit the New Motor on Your RS?
Absolutely. If you're upgrading, here's what you need to do:
-
Remove the bridge cable (the quick-disconnect line).
-
Plug the new motor cable directly into your controller.
-
Double-check the wiring is clean, secure, and not tangled with anything it shouldn't be (like your hopes and dreams).
Pro tip: This isnât heart surgeryâbut itâs close if you love your RS enough.
â ď¸ Important PSA: If It Ainât Broke, Donât Fix It
We can't stress this enough:
đŹ âDo not fix something that isnât broken.â
If your Inmotion RS is working perfectly fine, keep riding, keep smiling, and stay out of the support teamâs inbox.
This cable issue does not affect all RS scootersâonly a small number of users have experienced the error codes or overheating. So unless your RS is throwing a tantrum (or error 217), youâre good. No need to stress, and definitely no need to reach out to support just because you saw a blog post.
That said, if youâre an enthusiast or someone who likes their rides error-free and future-proof, you can purchase the upgraded motors from us and swap them out. Just donât do it because your buddy in a group chat told you to.Â

đŹ Final Thoughts
Inmotionâs decision to upgrade the RS motor cable is a great move for long-term reliability and serious ridersâbut itâs not a recall, itâs not a problem for everyone, and itâs not something you need to act on unless youâre actually experiencing issues.
As we always say here at VoroMotors: Ride fast, ride safeâand donât mod for the sake of modding.
Unless that mod adds 10 horsepower or 10Kw. Then⌠we get it.
