If the GPS on your Teverun stops working, it is easy to assume something serious has failed. In most cases it has not. The real, fundamental cause is almost always the small SIM card that lives inside the display. That SIM is what gives your Teverun its GPS and data connection, and a couple of everyday things can knock it out of action. The good news is that this is a quick fix you can usually do yourself in a few minutes.
The short version
No GPS on your Teverun? Open the display, take out the SIM card, clean its gold contacts, and reseat it firmly. That fixes it most of the time. If you prefer, you can also drop in your own prepaid SIM card to get it working.
Why the GPS stops working
Two things tend to cause it, and both come down to that SIM card. First, riding over very bumpy streets shakes the scooter constantly, and over time that vibration can work the SIM card loose in its slot. Once it is not seated properly, the connection drops and the GPS goes with it. Second, the gold-plated contacts on the SIM, the shiny metal pad that actually makes the connection, can get scratched or pick up dust. A dirty or scuffed contact cannot pass a clean signal, so again the GPS stops. Neither of these means your scooter is broken. It just means the SIM needs to be reseated or cleaned.
How to check and clean the SIM card
Here is the whole process. The video below walks through it, and the steps are written out underneath so you can follow along.
Watch: how to check, remove, and clean the SIM card in your Teverun display.
-
1Power the scooter off. Always start with the display and scooter fully powered down.
-
2Open the SIM holder in the display. Follow the video to open the display and reach the SIM card slot.
-
3Take out the SIM card. Gently slide or lift the SIM card out. Hold it by the edges, not the gold contacts.
-
4Check and clean the gold contacts. Look at the gold-plated side. If it is dusty or dirty, wipe it gently with a clean, dry cloth or a soft pencil eraser, then blow away any dust. Make sure the slot is clean too.
-
5Reseat it firmly. Put the SIM back in the correct way and press it in until it is secure and no longer loose.
-
6Power on and check. Turn the scooter back on and give the GPS a moment to reconnect. In most cases it comes right back.
Handle it gently
Always power off first. Hold the SIM card by its edges and avoid touching the gold contacts with bare fingers. Clean only with a dry cloth or a soft eraser, never water or harsh solvents, and never force anything. If it does not want to move, stop and message us.
You can use your own prepaid SIM card
Here is a handy thing to know. If you ever remove the SIM card, you are not stuck. You can put in another standard prepaid SIM card and make it work. So if the original is damaged, or you simply want your own data plan, a prepaid SIM will get your Teverun GPS and connection running again. If you are not sure which SIM size or type to use, reach out to us and we will point you the right way.
