That geofencing is a rental-fleet restriction, not a citywide legal speed limit, if you own your scooter outright, you are riding under the general 20 mph state cap and Denver's street rules, not the rental app's geofence.
It Is Hills, Not Altitude
You will see plenty of advice claiming Denver's elevation saps scooter power. That is true for gas engines, which need oxygen to combust fuel, it is not true for electric motors, which do not. What actually demands a stronger motor here are Denver's real hills, neighborhoods like Capitol Hill and Sloan's Lake climb noticeably, and a single small motor will work harder and run hotter on those grades than it would on flat ground. Buy for the hills you will actually ride, not the altitude.
Winter Changes the Math
Denver gets real snow and real cold, and lithium batteries lose range and deliver less power in low temperatures, sometimes noticeably so. Ice and packed snow also cut traction far more than any tire marketing claim accounts for. Plan on riding less, or not at all, during icy conditions, and bring your scooter inside to a warmer space when you can rather than leaving it in the cold between rides, both range and battery lifespan hold up better that way.
High-Altitude Sun Ages Components Faster
Denver logs close to 300 sunny days a year, and thinner air at altitude means more UV exposure than the same sunny day would deliver at sea level. That is harder on tires, seat material, and plastic components over time than most riders expect from a city known for snow. Genuine pneumatic or tubeless tires hold up better long term than budget solid tires in this kind of exposure.
