The Law: What Changed in 2025, and What It Means for 2026
Under Nevada law (NRS 484A.082 and 484A.125), an electric scooter must weigh under 100 lbs and is capped at 20 mph to stay classified as a scooter rather than a different vehicle category. Riding in city and county parks drops that cap to 15 mph. Nevada sets no statewide minimum age for a privately owned scooter, though shared rental scooters require riders to be at least 16, and both Clark County and Las Vegas passed 2025 ordinances requiring a helmet for any rider under 18.
The equipment requirements are worth knowing too: your scooter needs a bell or horn audible from at least 100 feet, brakes strong enough to skid the wheels on dry pavement, and for night riding, a white front light visible from 500 feet and a red rear light or reflector visible from 50 to 300 feet.
The Strip and Fremont Street Are Now Off-Limits
This is the rule that catches almost everyone off guard. As of May 21, 2025, electric scooters are banned from the sidewalks of the Las Vegas Strip (the Resort Corridor), and as of October 1, 2025, the same applies to Fremont Street between Main and Seventh. Both cities run a tiered fine system in 2026, with a first offense in the Resort Corridor running around $150. If your plan was to scoot down the Strip past the casinos, that is exactly the ride this new law was written to stop, plan on walking that stretch or riding side streets instead.
The 100 lb Threshold Matters More Than You Might Think
Because Nevada's scooter classification depends on weight as well as speed, a heavier performance scooter can cross into a different vehicle category entirely. The Hooga Daytona, for example, weighs 152 lbs, well over the 100 lb line. That does not make it illegal to own, but it does mean checking how your specific model is classified matters here in a way it does not in most other states, confirm the listed weight of anything you are considering before you assume it counts as a standard e-scooter under Nevada law.
